We talked with Juan Andrés, owner of Transali Compostela, a company specializing in takeaway, and a 100% Silence user.
What do you do at Transali Comspotela?
In our company we are dedicated to takeaway in collaboration with Just-Eat. We pick up the food at the restaurants belonging to this company, and deliver it to the final customer’s address.
Why did you decide to change your fleet to electric scooters?
A third of Santiago de Compostela is a monumental and tourist area. We thought that electric scooters would be much cleaner, quieter and more efficient, and we were also surprised to realised that they have an 80% lower consumption and 60% lower maintenance. This represents a significant cost saving for us, which amortizes the difference in the purchase price.
Why did you choose Silence bikes?
Initially we tested the Govecs bikes for rent with Cooltra, and these bikes had a good performance, but their radius of action was short and the battery life at our pace of work did not support more than 10,000 km, so they were not a solution. Later Cooltra informed us that new electric motorcycles of the Silence brand, with a greater range capacity, were coming onto the market and we decided to test them on a rental basis, finding that they were more manageable for delivery, with a larger range. In addition, the battery after 20,000-40,000 km continued to have a similar load capacity.
How many Silence bikes do you have in your fleet right now and how many kilometers does the fleet have in total?
Our entire fleet is made up of 13 Silence S02 motorcycles, which will increase in the next few days with two more of the same S02 model. Five of them have been with us for 23 months and have between 35,000 km and 47,000 km, maintaining the battery with similar charging capacity as at the beginning. Two S02s have been with us for 14 months and have 22,000 km and 24,000 km. The other six Silence S02 have been with us for 3 months and are between 6,000 km and 10,000 km long.
With the non-stop daily use of the bike, have you noticed any degradation of range in the Silence electric scooters you have?
As already mentioned in point 4, we are pleasantly surprised that the Silence S02 with more than 40,000 km continue to maintain a range very similar to the initial one.
Approximately how much have you calculated that you save per bike compared to a combustion engine?
Approximately 300€ per motorbike and month of work.
Do you think that for customers who receive your delivery of food at home is a plus due to be transported in an electric vehicle?
Yes, because the combustion scooters, due to smoke, grease and oil, keep the hands and clothes of the dirty delivery men, besides giving off smells that can get to impregnate the food packaging in some way, while the electric scooters are clean in all senses.
If you have to recommend a fleet change to someone, what would you say? Why choose Silence?
In fact we are recommending them for range, cleaning, maintenance, performance and economy. Let’s not forget the savings represented by our electric fleet, compared to combustion Scooters. With this savings a new Silence S02 would be paid every two months.
